From Small town America to the Nation’s Capital Opiate Addiction Has Our Attention

The entire staff at The Other Side Treatment Center (TOS) is delighted that the chronic disease of opioid addiction is receiving the long overdue attention of state and federal governmental officials. We are especially grateful that President Trump is appointing a new federal commission to be led by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to study the entire spectrum of opioid abuse and dependency.

A couple of the most important quotes from Governor Christie are, “Addiction is a disease and no life is disposable.” “We can help them by getting appropriate treatment.” We could not agree more.

On the same topic, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill from Missouri is heading up an investigation into Big Pharma to determine, in her words, why the drugs “have been handed out like candy in this country.” She is calling attention to the fact that the responsibility for addressing the epidemic is multifaceted. Government, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, and even society must join together to effectively reduce or even eliminate opioid addiction.

TOS uses science and medicine to move you beyond your opiate addiction. We find the cause of your physical pain and address it while we tackle your addiction. We combine medical treatment, psychological testing, counseling, and physical therapy to treat the root cause of the medical issue as well as the addiction.

At the local levels, there are many communities recognizing the need to educate and take actions to address the growing epidemic of opioid abuse. Hampton, VA is hosting a community forum with a panel discussion to do just that.
